Colbert and the Lucifer Effect

{by the way, that title looks kinda eerie in red and black, doesn’t it?}

I saw this Colbert piece today, and it was just too fantastic. Early on, Colbert was in usual character and used his sarchasm (as he does so well) to highlight some of our looney notions on authority. But (it seems to me at least) that about 2/3 of the way in, a bit of Colbert’s ire was genuinely stoked. And that last line…

My Sunday School memories would be a good bit different if I’d had a teacher like that.

  1. He really just said “I teach Sunday School mother______ didn’t he. Depending on your theological bent, that was a good response from Colbert. Much better than I expected.

    Great video. What I want to know is this: If you are going to just guess about pre-history and play around with scripture, why bother using it at all to make your point about conformity vs. non-conformity?

  2. Wow, I’ve never seen Colbert like that. There was no joke in that explanation of hell. And I absolutely agreed with it. Crazy stuff I wouldn’t expect from an episode of the Report.

  3. I agree, Evan, the whole thing just kind of falls apart.

    But Colbert was right on another point: that dude could have played the part of ol’ Slew Foot himself.
